Call Me Hermana

¡Buenos Dรญas!
President Bingham called us this weekend and said, "Hello Hermana Gallegos!"
I'm being transferred to the Chicago 5th Ward, and my compaรฑera will be Hermana RICHINS!!!!!!!! Sister Meili and I rode the train with her at the airport on her first day in the mission. She is hilarious and a stellar missionary. I am so excited. #SpanishProgram #Hermana #Tacos ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐ŸŒฎ

In others news, this week was CRAZY.
I voted in my first presidential election!  And...
Tuesday = Interviews with President Bingham = Joy
Thursday = random exchange with Sister BFF Copeland = Joy
Friday + Saturday + Sunday = Three-day sleepover with Sister Copeland + Sister Lawrence = No Sleep + a lot of Laughter

Sister Copeland and Sister Lawrence moved apartments, so they needed a place to stay for the weekend. #ApprovedSleepover #TooMuchFun... needless to say, we all had a good time and were sad when they left this morning.

On Thursday Sister Lawrence and I switched comps because Sister Lawrence and Sister Copeland were going stir-crazy having to pack and clean their whole apartment. So sis C and I went to Taco Bell and then cleaned. ๐Ÿ˜‚

On Friday, Sister Young and I were on exchanges, and then we switched back and sister V and I went to our Ward Halloween party. It was tons of fun. On Saturday morning we had a district finding activity and then ate lunch at Potbelly's! Mmm ¡muy delicioso! And then on Sunday we had church and I took pictures with some of my favorite people. Later that afternoon we went over to my FAVE's! Jen Bradley! She's amazing. I love her so much. We made dinner together and then made jewelry together. She also had us try on her wigs.

Today we're having a sister Zone activity. It's going to be dope ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

I'm excited for this next transfer. I want to soar. I feel like I'm standing at the edge of a big cliff. I can't see the bottom. But I know I just have to jump and have faith that He's going to catch me. I know He will. For the next six weeks, my goal is to be His completely. I have no other choice than to depend on Him.

I know that God is there and that He hears our prayers. Sometimes we're asked to do things that are outside of our comfort zones...like speaking Spanish, and being a missionary...but I know that God will always provide a way. I know miracles follow acting in faith.

God LIVES.

Love,
Hermana Gallegos

Chi-Town LOVE ❤

What is UP homies??
Life in the big city is going GREAT. Sister Veale and I were strutting down Michigan Ave on Saturday. There was nothing but blue skies and tons of people. They were like cockroaches. But as we were walking around, I realized how much I have grown to LOVE this part of the world. I LOVE Chicago and all it's inhabitants.

One person that I've really come to love here is a woman named Corlis! We have weekly visits where we will either read from the scriptures together, or share a lesson. Corlis has such STRONG faith. She said a few things that I really needed to hear. She testified that us simply choosing to serve a mission is a testimony of God's love. And the fact that we were sitting in her living room was also a testimony of God's love for her. Then she expressed how much she loved us. And of course I was ๐Ÿ˜ข
She was an answer to my prayers that day!

On Saturday we visited with Bettye. She's another person who we love SO MUCH. Man... how is it possible to love so many people?? Anyways we visited with her and chatted and planned to watch a session of a General Conference together. She's going to teach me how to crochet. Lol. I remember how last year, sister Swayzer in Morgan Park was trying to teach me how to crochet and it didn't go so well. But maybe I'll get it this time. Haha. But Bettye had surgery a couple weeks ago, and we've been going over to help clean her home. And before that, she had never let anyone in her home before! And now we're all like, BFFS. And she'll call us and talk about salads. And, we just flipping LOVE her.

We also had apartment checks this week. They were conducted by the senior couple from our district. I've managed to never have an apartment inspection my WHOLE mission. ๐Ÿ˜‘. But we spent a long time DEEP cleaning and passed with flying colors! Then we treated ourselves to Potbelly's. I can't remember if they have that out west... but it's delicious.

We also got this ready-to-cook meal package from some members who were heading out of town this week. And sister Veale and I made it together. #DateNight

We also went to the Cheesecake Factory on Saturday night. (Thank you Richard and Elaine for the gift card!!) it was REAL nice ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ. I got avocado egg rolls and a slice of snickers cheesecake. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Sister V got pasta and their new hazelnut cheesecake.

We also met with Cindy this past week. She's one of the lady's who called us last week to meet up. When we got there, Cindy was coloring from a coloring book and offered us a coloring page. Um, YES please! So we colored as we chatted and it was the best.
She is the best!

Lol and yesterday was the Chicago marathon. The route goes around our apartment so when we were trying to walk to church, we were stuck on the other side by thousands of sweaty runners. We had to wait for a break, and then we ran across. It was as if we had actually ran in the Chicago marathon. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿฝ‍♀️

I'm also coming down with a cold. So that's exciting news.

I don't know y'all, I just sure love this place. This mission. God. Sister Veale. Taco Bell. Life.

I felt so happy this week.

Before all that happiness, I wasn't feeling too hot. But I opened my scriptures and read from Enos. I felt like God's message to Enos was also a message to me. I felt forgiven and comforted. And then I felt such extreme JOY.
Repentance = Joy.
I'm grateful that we can try again and again. I really struggle with being too hard on myself, but this week I learned so much about God's love, and that we truly are Enough.
I remember a few weeks ago I received a powerful message where the Spirit helped me to understand that we are all Enough!
We were "Enough" when Christ stepped foot into the Garden of  Gethsemane. We were all "Enough" when He suffered, bled, and died. We truly are Enough.

I know that Heavenly Father loves us. And I felt that love as we testified of it to complete strangers this week. He loves Us. He Loves everyone. We are His children and we are Enough.

Love,
Sister Gallegos

Happy October! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‚

Last Sunday was so warm...and then something happened and the next day it was cold! Monday night especially, we walked out from a member's home and I wanted a sweater. IT'S SWEATER WEATHER PEOPLE!! ๐Ÿ‚ Holla' ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Events of the week:
- I got a haircut this past Monday by a ward member. She's awesome. And she gave us chicken nuggets. And she is super talented. We love Sandy!
- Someone took us out to try FUH. ๐Ÿฒ
- Got caught in the worst rainstorm ever.
- Sister Veale is awesome.
- I got trapped in between a window and Caitlyn Jenner on the bus. (Scroll for further details.)
- GENERAL CONFERENCE
- Soup & chili & cornbread ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
- We got to be missionaries! WOOHOO ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

One of our highlights for this week was when at two separate times, people called us to set up an appointment for us to come and share a message with them. They were both members and here for a treatment-program. The message we prepared was about Jesus Christ. We shared two videos: Because of Him + A Savior is Born.
The spirit was SO strong.
We testified of God's love and they both expressed that it was exactly what they stood in need of. It was humbling to be an instrument in the Lord's hands.

It made me think of a scripture I read this week: Jacob 2:19
I feel so grateful that I was called to serve the Lord in inviting people to Come unto Christ. Not just for 18 months, but forever. Being out here has taught me that being a missionary is more than just a program for the youth of the church, but rather a sacred environment to learn that we are all on a journey to be disciples of Jesus Christ. It's taught me that we're all on a journey to know Jesus (as elder Bednar expressed yesterday) and to treat others with great love + kindness as He does.

I love the Lord, and I know He Loves you.
God's love is what it's all about.

We had a good week. General conference was awesome but super busy for us. We missed the first 15 minutes of about every session due to public transportation issues. (Slow bus drivers, traffic, accidents...etc). The Spirit was strong. Though it felt a little bittersweet that this would be our last conference we'd see on our missions.

SO we get on the bus this week. As per usual. It was jam-packed so we maneuvered to the back of the bus to get out of the way. Then a tall woman gets up and demands that I sit down. I replied that it was OK, and I was good with standing. She insisted, and people were waiting to get through, (the woman was standing, blocking the aisle) so I slide into the seat. It became apparent that she was intoxicated.  She was screaming, slurring her words, swearing and almost got into an altercation with a woman that boarded the bus a few stops later. She also made mention of Caitlyn Jenner and herself. It was also apparent that she and Caitlyn had a few things in common.
Sister Veale sits down a few seats back and I turn towards the window, trying to avoid getting involved in this woman's rage. I look back and sister Veale and I make eye contact. So I wrote a message on a sticky note, and she took a picture. (Look below).
Naturally, everything worked out and we got to our next appointment. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Also, I like FUH.
I've also grown to like/tolerate mushrooms, celery, onions, salmon, peas...and I don't know what else, but MOM, missions sure do change people huh? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyways:
Life is good.
The Gospel is great!
And I love the invitation that elder Dallin H. Oaks gave to each of us to pray for inspiration to know what We can do to share the Gospel. As a family, or an individual!
